Astronomy alone is a great hobby, add a digital camera and you open up a whole new world or should that be universe.
I have always been fascinated by pictures of nebula's, galaxies, planets and the moon but until recently the cost of the equipment required to get these images has been a real budget buster, now if you do a little shopping around you can get started for as little as $430.00. My equipment is pretty simple, I bought a Meade ETX 70 telescope from the Meade factory outlet store on eBay, they sell for $130.00 these are not new telescopes they are factory refurbished and come with a full warranty, mine is just like new not a scratch on it. These telescopes sell pretty fast so you will need to check their store every day. I use the Meade Deep Sky Imager CCD camera for capturing the images, these are pretty spendy at $300.00, you also need a notebook computer, I use my Dell Inspiron 8600.
I am just getting started with this hobby, I hope to add more images as soon as the weather clears.
Orion Nebula M42

This is my first attempt at astrophotography, it was taken on Feb 3 2005, the location, my driveway in North East Iowa, My equipment, Meade ETX 70 telescope, Meade Deep Sky Imager. This is one 11 second exposure its a bit out of focus but I didn't think it was to bad for my first attempt.

My Equipment

Here's a picture of my equipment and my candy stash in the upper right corner, the notebook is a Dell Inspiron, the Telescope is a Meade ETX 70, The CCD Camera is a Meade Deep Sky Imager and the candy is Wintergreen Lifesavers and Brachs Lemon Drops. As you can see you don't need a lot of equipment to get started, the candy is optional.
